UTK Armed Forces Veteran Memorial

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville Armed Forces Veteran Memorial enshrines the names of the University of Tennessee of over 350 students, faculty, and staff who died in the line of duty while in military service to the United States from World War I to the present, whether involved in direct combat, military operations or training, or as the result of domestic or international acts of terror. The physical memorial is located on the campus Pedestrian Walkway near the Fred Brown Residence Hall.

The research for the memorial was conducted by the Center and its graduate research assistants, Alyssa Culp and Matthew Kelley. In addition to the collection of names for the memorial, they conducted research and collected documents and photographs to put together biographies to memorialize these Tennessee veterans. Their stories are being digitized for the public here on the Center for the Study of Tennesseans and War’s website, divided by area of conflict.
