Upcoming April 7 event on Latvian WWII refugee experiences

On Monday, April 7, Dr. Janis Chakars of Gwynedd Mercy University will give a guest talk titled “Merry Christmas! Our Homeland is Ablaze!: Latvian Refugee Experiences and a Book for Kids in World War II.”

The talk, which is sponsored by the Center for the Study of Tennesseans and War and the Department of History as part of the “AfterWars” Faculty Research Seminar, will take place at 3:45 p.m. in the Hodges Library 6th Floor Conference Room (605).

Janis Chakars is assistant professor and chair of Language, Literature and Fine Arts at Gwynedd Mercy University. He earned his PhD in mass communication at Indiana University. His research has appeared in Journalism History, American Journalism, the Central European Journal of Communication, International Research in Children’s Literature, and elsewhere. He serves on the board of the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies.
