TN National Guard

The Army National Guard as a whole dates its inception to 1636 and the formation of the early colonial militias in Massachusetts. The Tennessee National Guard traces its birth to 1774 when Captain Evan Shelby organized and led a militia to assist Lord Dunmore with the Shawnee in Virginia. Here you can find more information on the life and deeds of Tennessee Guardsmen who have won the medal of honor; a timeline of, and a brief history of the Tennessee National Guard; and links to the Tennessee National Guard’s social media and websites. You can also find a link to The Center for the Study of the National Guard at The University of Southern Mississippi if you are interested in the National Guard as a whole.
