Remembering 1918: A Hundred Years Since World War I and the Restoration of Lithuanian Independence

As we mark a century since the First World War, Vejas Gabriel Liulevicius, professor of history, recalls how the “total war” reshaped world politics. In his presentation, Liulevicius will discuss how the First World War proved the crucial context for the independence of Lithuania and the other Baltic states of Latvia and Estonia.
Following his presentation is a panel discussion on the meaning of these events for
present day. Panelists are Audris Mockus, the Ericsson-Harlan D. Mills Chair Professor of Digital Archeology and Evidence Engineering in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Jolita Zabarauskaite-Rosenow, former advisor and assistant to the deputy speaker of the Lithuanian parliament.
