William Ferrick Collingsworth, Jr., the son of W. F. and Ruth Collingsworth, was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on October 16th, 1921. He attended the University of Tennessee as an engineering student from 1941-1942and also worked at the Knoxville News-Sentinel. In 1942, he married Dorothy Fielden and enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served as a first lieutenant in the 92nd Depot Repair Squadron, 44th Air Depot Group, 8th Air Force, and was killed in action in France on January 18th, 1945. Collingsworth was awarded the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters for meritorious achievement in heavy bombardment missions over enemy territory. He was buried at Lynnhurst Cemetery, Knoxville, Tennessee.
