Willard Chester Dyer (August 29, 1916 – June 6, 1944) was from Knoxville, Tennessee. He attended Knoxville High School and participated in their ROTC program. He attended the University of Tennessee for Engineering from 1935 to 1938. He was living in Maryland and working for the Department of Agriculture when he enlisted in the United States Army. As a Private First Class, he served in Company M of the 116th Infantry Regiment in the Army’s 29th Division. He was killed in action on June 6th, 1944 during the D-Day invasion and on Omaha Beach. He is memorialized at the Normandy American Cemetery in France and the Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee.
