Robert Lee Brown (Aug. 7, 1921 – April 23, 1945) was born in Marion County, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Agriculture in 1943. Afterwards, he enlisted in the United States Army and was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant before being deployed to the European Theater with the 2nd Battalion of the 349th Infantry Regiment in the 88th Infantry Division. 2nd Lt. Brown participated in the Sicily-Italy campaigns. The 88th Division was involved in the heavy fighting against the German Army in 1945 as the allies proceeded towards the alps. 2nd Lt. Brown was killed in action during the 88th‘s crossing of the Po River in the movement towards Verona, Italy. He is memorialized at the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial in Florence, Italy and Pine Grove Cemetery in Marion County, Tennessee.
