Robert Fredrick Brooks (Oct. 9, 1921 – Nov. 21, 1944) was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was a graduate of Knoxville High School and attended the University of Tennessee for Business Administration from 1940 to 1943. He served in the Army Air Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant on a B-24 crew flying with the 706th Bomb Squadron of the 446th Bomb Group. 2nd Lt. Brooks was stationed in Europe and flew bombing operations on the German interior. He was killed in action when his B-24 was shot down near Zuiderzee, Holland, following a bombing run on northern Germany. He is memorialized at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee.
