Perry Edward Cunningham (April 30, 1918 – Feb. 26, 1945) was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was an alumni of Young High School and an Agricultural school graduate of the University of Tennessee’s Class of 1941. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and was assigned as a Staff Sergeant to Company G, 376th Infantry Regiment of the 94th Division. The 376th was deployed to the European theatre in September 1944 as part of the 3rd Army. Staff Sergeant Cunningham had returned to the frontline after being wounded and receiving the Purple Heart in February of 1945 to take part in a joint operation with the 10th Armored Division to take the area around Saarsburg when he was killed in action on the 26th. He is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Knoxville.
