Nicholls White Bowden Jr. (July 25, 1919 – Oct. 27, 1943) was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He attended the University of Tennessee for Business Administration from 1937 to 1940. He enlisted in the United States Army and was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant when he was deployed to the European Theater. He served as the second in command of G Company in the 2nd Battalion of the 135th Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division. He participated in the Allied invasion of Sicily and Italy in 1943. 1st Lt. Nicholls W. Bowden Jr. was killed in action during the Battle for Ailano, Italy, on October 27th, 1943, during the fighting surrounding Hill 235 against the German army. He is memorialized at the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery in Nettuno, Italy.
