Kenneth Brown Hart (May 27, 1918 – Nov. 22, 1944) was born in Knox County, Tennessee. He attended the University of Tennessee from 1940 to 1942 for engineering and was a member of the marching band. He enlisted in the United States Army and originally served as a private playing in the Army’s 191st Field Artillery Band. He was later deployed as an infantryman in 1944 during the invasion of France and reassigned to Company C, 1st Battalion of the 18th Infantry Regiment in the 1st Infantry Division “Big Red One.” Pvt. Hart’s company saw some of the fiercest combat of the war in the fall of 1944 in the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest. Pvt. Hart was killed in action on November 22, 1944 during the fight to take Hill 203 that lasted several days and left one platoon of his company with only 8 surviving members. He is buried at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee.
