Julius Johnson Freemon (Feb. 20, 1920 – Dec. 5, 1944) was born in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. He had been attending the University of Tennessee for Business Administration since 1940 when he enlisted in the United States Armed Forces in 1942. Freemon was deployed to France in July 1944 as a corporal, but was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and put in command as a heavy machine squad leader of Company D in the 330th Infantry Regiment, 83rd infantry Division on August 18, 1944. Sgt. Freemon was killed in action on December 5, 1944 during the Battle of Hürtgen Forest near the Belgium-Germany border in the heavy fighting that signaled the start of the German offensive and the Battle of the Bulge. He is memorialized at the Ardennes American Cemetery and Memorial in Neuville-en-Condroz, Belgium and the Freemon Cemetery in Lawrence County, Tennessee.
