John Theodore Bodwell (Sept. 3, 1923 – Nov. 15, 1944) was born in Savannah, Georgia. He attended the University of Tennessee for Liberal Arts in 1941 and had transferred to North Carolina State University before he enlisted in the United States Army in 1943. Bodwell served as a private in the 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Division sent to the European Theater. Pvt. Bodwell was assigned to the famous Red Ball Express, the convoy system responsible for supplying the Allied advance on the European continent, as a truck driver. He was killed in action at the start of the Battle of the Bulge on November 15, 1944 by a German sniper when transporting supplies to the frontlines. He is buried at the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial in Lorraine, France.
