John Gose “Jack” Banner (May 26, 1923 – Dec. 9, 1943) was born in Louisiana, but was raised Knoxville, Tennessee and was a graduate of the Knoxville High School. He attended the University of Tennessee for Liberal Arts from 1941 to 1943 and played Tennis while at the university. He was in his junior year when he enlisted in the United States Army. He was deployed as a private to the European Theater in the 15th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division. He killed in action during the Italian campaign on December 9, 1943. He is buried at Sicily-Rome American Cemetery in Nettuno, Italy.
