James Allen Grant (Jan. 9, 1919 – March 24, 1942) was born in Dyer County, Tennessee, in the town of Finley. He attended the University of Tennessee for Liberal Arts from 1937 until the war began in 1941. Grant enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was being trained as a pilot at Morris Field in Mecklenburg, North Carolina, when he was killed when his plane suffered an accident and crashed during a training exercise. 2nd Lt. James Grant is buried at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
