Graham Raymond Betts (Dec. 12, 1924 – Jan. 5, 1945) was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He attended the University of Tennessee for Engineering from 1942 to 1943 when he entered service with the United States Army after his first year. Betts was trained as an army engineer at the University of Nebraska and completed training as a Private First Class before being deployed in the 3rd Armored Division. He served with Company F in the 36th Armored Infantry Division in France in 1944, seeing combat during the Battle of the Bulge. PFC Betts was killed in action on January 5th, 1945 southwest of Baugnez, Belgium in the Ardennes during the 3rd Armored’s pursuit of the retreating German forces at the conclusion of the battle. He is buried at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
