Frank Harleston Ball Jr. (Sept. 15, 1925 – June 9, 1945) was born in Knoxville, TN. He attended the University of Tennessee for Pre-Med and enlisted in the United States Army after the academic year of 1942-1943. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company E of the 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. The 24th Infantry Division was deployed in the Pacific Theater and took part in the retaking of the Philippines from Japanese forces in 1945. 2nd Lt. Frank H. Ball Jr was killed in action during this campaign at the Battle of Mindanao on June 9, 1945 as the 21st Infantry Regiment was advancing on the district of Calinan in Davao City. He is buried at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee.
