Donald Close Alexander (Jan. 9, 1915 – June 19, 1944) was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He attended the University of Tennessee for Business Administration from 1941 to 1942. He enlisted in the United States Army and was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant serving with the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. 1st Lt. Alexander participated in the Invasion of Normandy in June 1944, earning a Silver Star for his service. He was killed in action on June 19, 1944, in Cherbourg, France. He is buried at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Normandy, France, and memorialized at Mount Hope Cemetery in Franklin, Tennessee.
