Clarence Eugene Haston Jr. (Aug, 1922 – April 14, 1945) was born in Van Buren County, Tennessee and was raised in McMinnville, Tennessee. He was a graduate of Central High School in McMinnville and Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee. He had just started attending his first year at the University of Tennessee for Pre-Medicine when war broke out in December 1941. Haston was trained at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, Colorado as a Technician Fifth Class and Surgical Technician for the United States Army. He was assigned to the 23rd Armored Infantry Battalion of the 7th Armored Division as a frontline field medic with surgical expertise during the invasion of Europe. He was wounded in action in late 1944 by a German mortar shell, but pushed himself to swiftly return to the front as the 7th Armored entered German territory. F/5 Clarence E. Haston Jr. was killed in action by an artillery shell on April 5, 1945 in Deilinghofen, Germany outside of Frankfurt while on a mission to search out pocket of German artillery positions. He is buried at Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial at Limburg, Netherlands.
