Clarence Conrad Corpening Jr (Nov. 21, 1919 – May 26, 1943) was born in Johnson City, Tennessee. He attended the University of Tennessee for Liberal Arts from 1937 to 1940. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant, and trained as a B-24 pilot. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater in 1943 with the 530th Bomb Squadron of the 380th Bomb Group in the 5th Air Force. 1st Lt. Clarence C. Corpening Jr was on a routine flight between Hawaii and Australia when his plane went missing over the Pacific Ocean on May 26, 1943. He is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii, and at Monte Vista Memorial Park in Johnson City, Tennessee.
