Christopher Garner Agee (June 24, 1917 – Jan. 30, 1944) was born in Helena, Arkansas and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended the University of Tennessee for Engineering from 1936 to 1937 and was a student at Texas A&M when he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was trained as a 1st Lieutenant and pilot flying B-24 bombers. He was stationed at Greenwood Army Air Base in Mississippi as an instructor before being deployed to the European Theater with the 747th Bomber Squadron of the 456th Bomb Group. He was on a mission flying from the United States to Italy when his B-24 landed at Eknes Field in Dakar, Senegal to refuel. 1st Lt. Agee’s B-24 suffered a malfunction on takeoff and crashed, killing all but one of the crew members. He is buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.
