Charles Joseph Creath Jr. (April 20, 1925 – Oct. 13, 1944) was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. Creath was attending the University of Tennessee for Business Administration when he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1942. He served as a Staff Sergeant assigned to a B-17 Flying Fortress crew in the 463rd Bombardment Group of the 15th Army Air Corps operating in the European theatre. The 463rd conducted bombing operations that ranged from Romania to Southern France. Staff Sergeant Creath was a part of one of these operations when his B-17 was shot down over Vienna, Austria. He received the Purple Heart and the Air Medal, and is memorialized at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.
