Sharp’s Ridge Veterans Memorial Park Dedication
Today marked a milestone for the Center. We completed a two-year public history project to install some of the Center’s research in the Sharp’s Ridge Veterans Memorial Park in Knoxville, TN. We partnered with the Veterans Heritage Site Foundation and the Knoxville Parks and Recreation Department to complete this project. We held a dedication ceremony today, 8/17/2024. The Knoxville Mayor and representatives from the Center and the Veterans Heritage Site Foundation talked about the historic importance of installing information boards in the park. There was no information on Tennessee veterans or Tennessee military history in the park, despite the fact that the area was set aside to honor veterans in 1953. Veterans and their family members were in attendance, along with members of the UTK Army ROTC program and Center staff members. It is the Center’s mission to research, preserve, and share stories of Tennessee veterans.
