Two-Star Major General Stephen A. Clark
We were honored today to host Retired Two-Star Major General Stephen A. Clark and his wife Cynthia for a visit to the Center for the Study of Tennesseans and War. General Clark sat down with Center Director Chris Magra for an interview about his life and his career in the service. General Clark was born into a military family at Fort Hood. His father was a colonel and a UTK alum who served two tours in Vietnam and later lived as a defense contractor. Clark bounced around in his early years as an Army brat, and he graduated high school in 1982 at Frankfurt American High School. He attended University of Tennessee through the ROTC program until his graduation in 1986. His enlistment began the same month of his wedding to fellow UTK alum Cynthia Mays Clark, with whom he shares two daughters. His career as a command pilot in the Air Force includes over 3300 hours in 13 aircraft, and he saw combat in Bosnia, Somalia, Haiti, Afghanistan, and Iraq. During his Air Force career he attended graduate programs at Troy State, the Naval War College, and the Air War College. He served as the CEO of Summit Technology Laboratories and as faculty for the Institute for Advanced Network Security. Clark reached the rank of Major General and served as Director of Programs, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Plans and Requirements at the Pentagon. He earned such awards as the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and a Bronze Star during his career. He currently resides in Herndon, VA.
