Claude Robert Garmany Jr. (Aug. 21, 1921 – Nov. 27, 1943) was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and attended the University of Tennessee for Engineering from 1938 to 1940. He was also employed by American Trust & Banking Company in Chattanooga before he enlisted in the armed services in December 1941. Garmany Jr. joined the Army Air Corps and served as a 1st Lieutenant and pilot instructor on B-17s. On Nov. 27, 1943, 1st Lt. Garmany Jr. was killed while training a B-17 crew out of Lockbourne Air Base near Columbus, Ohio. He, along with the rest of the crew were killed in a training exercise when their B-17 crashed after suffering a catastrophic engine malfunction. He is buried at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
