His talk is entitled “Tennessee’s Cornelia Fort, Pearl Harbor, and the Female Pilots of World War II.” Simbeck is the author of the book Daughter of the Air: The Brief Soaring Life of Cornelia Fort, which details the life and wartime experiences of the history-making Nashville pilot Cornelia Fort, who served during World War II as a founding member of the Women’s Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron, the first organization under the United States Army Air Forces to employ female pilots.
